Chapter 6 - Florence Two Weeks Earlier
FLORENCE - 2 WEEKS EARLIER
Where had the time gone? Sitting at her desk and staring at her calendar, Alba couldn’t believe she was heading back to New York in a week or so. The dates had been moved forward which really caused a challenge. Trips to the States interrupted so much business she was doing in Italy and France. There had to be a better way and this was the entire point of having an investor. Alba was done with the trunk shows and selling. She wanted to design. Just design. She’d worked long enough to have that luxury - Guilia would need to work on her travel schedule so it wouldn’t be so disruptive.
The new fabric vendors she found at the luxury international Premiere Vision tradeshow in Paris were the best. Every six months, hundreds of the most renowned fabric manufacturers, trim and findings companies showed their new wares at this luxury trade show. Aisle after aisle was filled with silks, cashmeres, vicuna and super-fine merino wools, embroideries, ribbon, trims - anything and everything a designer would need to create a collection. It was thrilling to walk the show and pick out the samples to create a mood board. Alba was pleased as punch at the mood board she had going for the next collection. It was going to be sublime.
Her starting point for next spring was Birds of Paradise. She was in the throes of searching for feathers and flowers as she was going to design with both the flower and actual birds as a theme woven into the various silhouettes. Already, she was imaging a stunning gown in tropical sunset colors with feathers trailing behind like a train. It would be magnificent.
