Chapter 5: Enarw - Part Three

As the ship descended through the upper atmosphere, Kinter sat in the engine room with Filn and watched carefully as his adjustment was put to the test during the descent.


“Look!” he cried delightedly, “It worked!”


Filn looked over the readings carefully.


“Yes,” she said, “it seems that way. Nice work. What made you think of that particular fuel mix?”


For the first time she looked at him in a less guarded way, more friendly in appearance, and Kinter blushed.


“It reminded me of a problem they gave us in class, and I applied that principle to the Candell’s process.”


“Well, you are welcome to tinker any time you want,” Filn replied as she went back to her main console. “Now strap in, we’ll be landing soon.”


“Here?” asked Kinter.


“Why not?” said Filn.


Kinter smiled and strapped himself into the auxiliary engine room chair. It was his now!
